The one that got away.....

Hi there! I hope everyone had a nice long weekend and perhaps was able to squeeze in a little bit of opshopping as I did!  Here are my finds from today and Saturday.

Champagne glasses, 30c each. We had some friends over for Easter lunch and I had forgotten we were down to only 3 glasses. No-one really minded drinking champagne from wine glasses but next time I'll be prepared!

This nice homemade top with gold buttons down the back was $3. It's hard to see in the photo but the fabric has a lovely gold thread throughout it. I ended up removing the massive shoulder pads in it though ;o)

I'm not really a book person, but I found this lovely little book for $1 called 'Rhoda's Reward' that had been presented to a girl called Mabel McNeill 109 years ago. I really only bought it for Mabel's sake!

This little knit was $3

There was also a pure wool blanket in apple green (you know the ones with the satin trim) for $4. It was in such good condition and didn't have that 'wool' smell as some old blankets do. I ummed and ahhed for too long though because someone else snatched it up pretty quickly as I was wandering around. I bet I'll regret not buying that in a few weeks when winter hits. Oh well, I'm sure my hubby would've hated the colour anyway...... ;o)

and I had to share my new 50s pink laminate table with you all even though technically it's not from an op shop. It was from a little antique/secondhand shop on Lygon St in Brunswick East. It was marked at $25 but because I bought some other things there (including a mint condition 60's coat in primrose yellow!!!) he let me have the table for $10. It did take me a few hours though to clean up the chrome but I'm really happy with it as it fits in our unit perfectly. Now to find a matching set of 50's dining chairs! Anyone able to help me out ;o)

Lovely finds, I'm on the lookout for a snuggly blanket - It's cold today, hot water bottle came out of the cupboard last night!!!

The cardi is great too!

Great table ... good luck with the chairs. Didn't want to embrace the eighties revival with the shoulder pads eh? It does feel quite silly--have no idea what we were thinking with those back then.

Have you checked out Mabel McNeill Raywood on Google? Love that you saved her little book.

I just did! Isn't google a crazy thing!?!

Mabel Elspeth McNeill born 19 Feb 1890 in Raywood Vic. She was the 6th child out of the 8 in her family.

It looks as though someone is researching that family history currently?? Perhaps I'll try and track them down and see if they'd like the book. (after I read it though)

Did you notice that she died without marrying. If you search her in Trove (the digital papers) you'll see she has an in memorial for a young man killed in WW1. Her sweetheart perhaps? All from a little book found in an opshop

Yes I wondered if that was her sweetheart too. :o(
In another record I found it listed her occupation as 'spinster'. I didn't realise it was a job ;o) haha!

Do let us know if you can reunite Mabel's book with a descendant family history researcher of the family - that would be lovely
