Op Shop Tour by Bike

On Saturday morning I had the pleasure of leading an Op Shop Tour by bike. It was a fantastic day, full of fun, laughter, bargains and best of all fresh air. There was 15 keen bike riders, who cycled together with bikes of all different shapes and sizes, ensuring they each could carry their loads safely.  As a keen bike rider myself,  it was great to see more people supporting this sustainable Saturday morning of retail therapy.

Firstly we met at the Sacred Heart Mission on Grey St St Kilda, then we meandered along to Albert Park before stopping at a couple  more Op Shops in South Melbourne. Once we had sufficiently exhausted our carrying capacity on two wheels, we were off to the Bank St Commons for lunch in the cafe and a perusal at the Bank St Markets, where surprisingly people found room in their baskets to continue the purchasing.

It was a great way to spend the day, bag a bargain, enjoy the sunshine and soak up the community spirit.  The concept is a  collaboration between Op Shop Tours Australia and The Squeeky Wheel and the event was presented as an EnviroEvent as part of the Leisure & Lifestyles Winter Program  by the City of Port Phillip. For more info click the links above or join the city of Port Philip's Facebook and Twitter account.

Please register your interest with the City of Port Phillip if you would like to join the next Bicycle Op Shop Tour, by sending an email to the following address enviro@portphillip.vic.gov.au.There is an Arts Culture and Heritage tour this Saturday the 22nd from 1.00pm - 4.00pm, get in quick to register.

What a super day! You're lucky over that side of town because you don't have many steep hills in the shopping areas. There's no way a cycling opshop tour would work over my side of town - Eltham and Greensborough are mostly mountainous, lol!
