forthcoming Church Fete / Market day PLAYFUL MARKET ASHBURTON

YOU all know I love to Op Shop around Ashburton area, well the Ashburton Baptist Church is holding a 'playful market day' on Sat. 13 August and I though you may like to know about it in advance.
sausage sizzle.. handmade craft stalls .. ABC cafe .. live music .. art exhibition .. second hand book stall .. cakes and goodies ..  toys .. lucky dips .. 2nd hand items  .. QUILT display .. baby gifts .. produce
AND an Animal Farm to keep dad and the kids entertained while you shop.

Sounds like fun, so I thought before I make a 'Look what I Found' post, I should give you all a chance to come along and find some treasures too .. and then you can check out the Ashburton Op Shops afterwards.

Linen Sale -- 50% OFF -- Ashburton Op shop

I can never resist an Op Shop Sale.  Today (Fri), tomorrow (Sat) .. and apparently next week too.. is 50% off all Linen at the Ashburton Support Services op shop, in High St Ashburton, right on the corner of Welfare Pde at the Railway Station.

I picked up a pair of embroidered pillowcases, a lovely Irish Celtic Design linen tea towel from the Ulster Weavers, and a terry handtowel with granny crochet top to hang from my towel rail in the kitchen.... perfect !!
There were no 1960s floral sheets for me, unfortunately, but there were 2 huge racks of sheets / doona covers. . . all individually measured and priced and neatly hung in rows ..  if I needed more sheets (I DO NOT!! LOL), I could have come home with a car full at their prices.
The Shop is open ALL DAY Saturday now. So that's 10am to 4pm six days a week.... (closed  Sundays).

ASHBURTON OP SHOP are having a Garage Sale this Friday

I saw a notice today that the Ashburton Support Services Op Shop in High street, on the corner of Welfare Parade, [near the railway station] is having a Garage Sale this Friday,

Outside, not in the Shop, with furniture, tools, bits and pieces that are normally NOT offered for sale in the shop. 10am till Noon or 1pm (cant remember), but Friday MORNING, May 6th.
The Shop will still be open as usual all day.

May be worth a look in?  I remember a few years ago they used to have a monthly Yard Sale in their carpark, there was always something of good value to pick up then.  I still have a filing cabinet and small chair from a Yard Sale there about 5 years ago!!

Two-dollar treats in Ashburton

I love it when I find several op shops within walking distance of each other. Did you know that there are three on High Street near Ashburton station? Salvos, Vinnies and the Ashburton Support Services shop. I got all of these things there, all $2 each!

Gold and black earrings:

Woven scarves, one of which has "Timor Leste" woven into it (I only realised when I got it home!). Also some lace-up sandals.

A Lahu bag from Thailand (the Lahu are one of the ethnic groups living in Thailand):

Look at the hand embroidery!

Thanks to Lyndel for the tip about Ashburton!

Wedgwood in Ashburton

Today I took myself over to Ashburton High Street for their Annual Street Festival. Despite the rain, it did clear up around mid-morning, I had a lovely time walking up and down, seeing the sights, the Farm Animals, eating ice creams and sausages, .. and guess what.. both Vinnies (1/2 price Sale), and the Ashburton Op Shop, were Open ! yay.  I picked up a few bits and pieces, mainly clothes for my gr.daughter.  I did spot this Wedgwood Stoneware MADE IN ENGLAND dinner set.. about 70 or 80 pieces in all, including a sweet teapot, all for $100.  I don't need more dinner sets .. I certainly don't need another 70 or 80 pieces of crockery in the already overflowing kitchen cupboards, so I left it there.

Who knows, maybe one of our readers needs a new set.  Looked to be in very good condition, and its WEDGWOOD, not some crummy KMart special...  may still be there on Monday...
The Ashburton Op Shop is the local Senior Citizens Community Support Services shop, it is in the green tin building right alongside the railway line, corner High St and Welfare Parade.

Ashburton Salvos Sale

Just a quick one: I drove past the Ashburton Salvos near the corner of High Street and Warrigal Rd, and spotted their sale sign, '50% off sale Feb 3, 4, 5.'

If you're in the area, you know what to do...

Half Price Sale - Ashburton

Dropped into 2 OpShops in Ashburton today, picked up a few patterns, a dress for Gr.daughter and this large, lovely piece of fabric.

The fabric was from the Support Services Op Shop by the Railway line in Ashburton High Street,  TODAY was HALF PRICE DAY on all stock... in fact they said their SALE would run from today (Wed) thru to Saturday.  May have to pop back again tomorrow to see if anything else takes my fancy. They are only open 1/2 days Saturday, but I did notice they have changed their Monday hours, they are now open from 10am every day, even Mondays.

the fabric  is Profusement from the Joy of Spring Collection, designed by  Greeff.. printed in England for Warner...[seems to be a heavy cotton]
up close

Only big problem I have is it is musty smelling... guess I'll have to hang it on the line outside for a few days and hope it freshens up.  I do NOT want to wash and iron it if possible, until I decide what to do.  There are 3 large pieces, each approx. 2½ to 3 meters long!.

Tea Cosie Christmas

Some of my favourite op shops are already closed for the Christmas break, but the Salvos were still open as of yesterday. I dropped by my favourite Salvos on High Street in Ashburton and found a collection of tea cosies retailing at $2-3 each:

I didn't buy them, so they're probably still there if anyone's looking for a last minute present.

Funky finds: old telephone and dressing table stool

Visited the Salvos (High Street, Ashburton) again today and found a dressing table stool in good nick for $10. The phone I found for $4 at Kindilan op shop (Mont Albert) a few months back now lives on top of it. :)

I really don't need this but I'm going to buy it anyway

Ashburton's new Salvation Army Store (formerly Bargain Browser) at 401-403 High Street was sporting some funky retro furniture today:
Retro armchair - the chair was in pretty good nick, though the cushions probably need replacing. It didn't have a price on it, and I was too scared to ask. Behind it, leaning against the glass window, was a fold-up rattan chair going for $15.

Wooden high chair for toddler with stickers - this one was going for $30.

Retro wheeled tray with tiled surface - this was my favourite. I managed to resist grabbing everything else, but this I had to buy, though a) I don't have anywhere to put it and b) it cost $50. The Elmo cookie jar was going for $2, but somebody knocked it over five minutes later.

On my way out, I also picked up some retro-inspired canisters for $7/set.

Like Heartofpearl, I am also a newbie on this blog. I'll be posting up pictures of cool things that I find but can't afford to buy. Hopefully you'll have the space/cash to buy them instead. :)

Calenders

Great score at Ashburton Services Op-shop; calenders for 50c each! It's not toooo late for a 2008 calender, is it? There were heaps - brand new still in plastic.

Gorgeous Steve Parish photos - so iconic! D2 has been asking for a calender for months now, but it never seemed to happen. We don't really need so many, but I couldn't resist the pictures.

I truly love design in nature - to me, it is a constant reminder of life being 'designed', planned, created, not happening 'by chance'.

Hubbie and I (though mainly him) are avid bird spotters - 'twitchers' I've been told. Hubbie has much better eye-sight than me and can spot a colour behind their ear, to identify them! I'm just happy to know that they are there.

White-winged fairy wren - is that colour for real?

Eastern Rosella - we often seem them in the suburbs.

Superb Fairy-wrens - my favourite!!

My Finds today

Finally having some time on my hands has allowed me to do a little hunting today (and such much needed and very late posting).
Traveled over to Temcare Op-Shop, Station Street, Oakleigh, today and quite a treasure trove! I saw the shop when it was closed and looked through the window at a very cluttered and dark shop and turned my heel and walked away. Not today!

Venturing in, the first thing I spotted was the large collection of interesting chinaware and lots and lots of pyrex in pretty good nick! Didn't need those, so I meambled my way to the linen section and picked up a lovely patterned sheet for $2, then hunted out the craft section where I scored a quilting hoop for $8, fantastic piece of cotton drill (maybe for an apron?) for $1.50 and another embroidery hoop for $2. They had a huge range of craft magazines too (just got the one Quilters Companion). The staff seemed nice, though had no idea of pricing and seemed to think about what to charge for an eon!

I got this little sweetie from my favourite local op-shop, Ashburton Services, along with a daisy tablecloth. This shop is getting more and more popular, so you have to quick smart to nab a treasure.

I also found a chenille bedspread which is in perfect condition (though no label so not absolutely 100% sure it is pure cotton; the fringing doesn't feel like it) in a delicious icy pink. Yum!
