St Vinnies op shop Oakleigh open 7 days per week

Was just in the Oakleigh St Vinnies op shop, in Crewe Rd, when I overheard (and read the sign on the counter) that they are now open 7 days per week starting tomorrow.
Not sure if this is all St Vincent de Paul op shops or just the Oakleigh store, but the new opening hours at Oakleigh are Sunday 10am - 4pm.
They have rearranged the whole store layout in the past few months so if you haven't been for awhile drop in and have a look at the fab stock they have available.
A leaky roof in yesterdays heavy downpour saw the back room floor a little damp but no damage to stock and the hard working volunteers carried on, regardless.
Snaffled up some great jigsaw puzzles for my Aspie son, a bargain at $2, $3 and $4 each, audio book of Goosebumps on cassette tape and a few books.

An Op Shopping Excursion

Witchery dress found at St Vincent's in Hampton

I haven't posted here for quite a while.  Not that I haven't been op shopping all this time, of course not!, but if you ever drop by my blog you will be aware of our house moving project.  It has been selfishly hogging my time so that blogging is a rare occurrence. However, I had to share a recent jaunt to some of my favourite op shops with you.

Two new Melbourne friends (1 from Sydney & 1 from Chicago) are very keen thrifters, but lack a local's knowledge of all the secret haunts where treasure can be found.  So I planned a day (from school drop off to pick up) to share 4 of my favourite haunts. The trip was such a success that a plan is developing for fortnightly jaunts.  Lucky I still have a few secrets up my sleeve.  Here is our itinerary if you would like to go on your own excursion.

1.  Sacred Heart Mission Op Shop - cnr Inkerman Rd & Hotham St, St Kilda East:
great for adult and children's clothes, ties and jewellery.

2. St Stephen's Op Shop - 116 Martin St, Brighton:
run by a lovely bunch of nanna's who will help you find just what you are looking for, and at a great price!

3. Gibney's Gourmet Foods - Martin St, Brighton:
we stopped here for a scrumptious lunch and coffee break.

4. St Vincent's Hampton - 501 Hampton St, Hampton:
large collection of china, glassware, clothes, books and furniture.  I always go home with something from here.

5. Oppe Shoppe - Hawthorn Rd, Caulfield North:
shoes, clothes, bags - they often get Olga Berg and Nine West seconds.

I wish I had photos to share of the bootful of goodies 3 girls can accumulate on one excursion, but well we were just to busy searching!  I'll let you know how the next goes.
Happy thrifting.

Oakleigh Op Shop Goodies Round Up

As you can see from the photo, we found a few goodies yesterday, around Oakleigh.

The brand new, fully complete board game Squatter - for a mere $2 - and the cast iron flat-iron - only $5 - were found in St Vinnies in Crewe St, Oakleigh.

The brand new, never been opened or used fondue set - only $10 with the original $35 price tag still intact - was a bargain from Temcare Op Shop in Station St, Oakleigh.

The brand new, never been used board game Bush Walk - still wrapped in original cellophane for $2.75 - was a find in the Salvo's in Atherton Rd, Oakleigh.
For under $20.00 and a leisurely stroll around the suburb we found some great bargains, including a couple that we'd been hunting for!

.................................................

Temcare Op Shop, in Station St, Oakleigh is bursting at the seams with goodies at the moment!
Collectors tins - tea, tobacco and other sorts- are out on the tables, crockery sets and assorted silverware heavily marked down, many racks of great quality clothing are out on display, as well as a huge variety of other goodies.
They have a sleeping bag and 2 man tent available - price unknown - but both appeared to be in good condition, the tent still in it's original box, for anyone interested in camping.
Also a large collection of thermos's were variously priced, along with a few backpacks for the serious bushwalker.
