A real gem in Forest Hill

To atone for the sin of promising pics of the Savers warehouse and then not delivering, I bring you scanned pages from Happy Tops in Gem Crochet. I am guessing you might laugh so hard that you forget you didn't get to see the behind-the-scenes stuff from Savers. How could you not giggle at this matching father and son get-up? They're obviously hooked on fishing - and on crochet too... (hooked... get it??).
The only thing more amusing is this mother/daughter outfit suggestion. AGGH, MY EYES, MY EYES!!!

I found this crochet book at Forest Hill Salvos a few weeks ago for 25c, I bought it because I like the little girl's top on the front cover (which can be done in adult sizes too) but goodness knows when I will get around to making it.

Haha! I like the dads shirt on the cover...so 70's! I think you should make the matching mum/daughter outfit in watermelon pink and green...tasteful!!

Oh, and we forgive you for letting us down on the savers warehouse pics :) Another mission for another day!

I love it :) especially the matching outfits... which are rather assult of the senses. I found some pictures once in a magazine that were equally hilarious, now immortalised in my art folio, of all the 70s chrocheted clothing few would wear. Good find by the way :)

A RUSSIAN sweater pattern book from the SOVIET ERA... that would definitely be the holy grail of bad taste in crochet, I cannot WAIT!
If only I did have time to make some of these things... and someone foolish enough to want to model them for me... maybe some of you ladies with time on your hands can whip these up for your guys as the true test of whether they love you enough to wear them in public, haha...

Thank you for making me laugh - I needed that! I have a 7 year old girl and have so far resisted the urge to dress her in identical clothes to me. I just love the Father-Son crochet photo though - for a minute I thought his bag was crocheted too - I am going 'that is way too much crochet for me!'. Thanks again for a great post!

OH I only found this blog today, and have had a lovely evening reading back over 2010. As an ardent OpShopper I cannot wait to share my finds with you all soon. I particularly love to buy patternbooks, and linen, some books, vintage teatowels +++ anything really! And I visit a few shops I've not seen mentioned yet in Melbourne's east.

Can you please reveal where the Forest Hill salvos is? I'm out that way for work quite often but haven't found it...thanks!

....all the shops in Forest Hill are in Mahoneys Road, right opposite the Shopping Centre. first up the hill from Canterbury Rd is the messy shop 'The Den' or whatever its called run by Mary from Rotary or Lions.... then the Salvos is bit further up past the banks.... then Red Cross recycled clothing further up again all before you get to the car park on the left.. good luck hunting!

Thanks Lyndel... but Red Cross is not there any more as far as I can tell. There is, however, a Youth Education Service (YES) shop which is quite good, better than Red Cross in my opinion... Red Cross always seems to be pricey and too clean, I prefer to rummage through stuff as you can do at Lion's Den on Mahoneys Road!!
