The Glitz and the Glamour

Oh my life is so glamorous it's unbelievable, Vegemite up my jumper, cat biscuits through the kitchen, don't get me started on the washing placed just by the basket, not quite in it but just by it!!

Possible why when I'm off out op shopping I'm drawn to the not so casual.

One of my local shops Family Life in Chelsea had this 80s strapless floral number - 50% off? Yes please, pretty peachy pink please! Great shop with a boutique feel but still reasonable (op shop) prices and the music always makes me happy, think Rat Pack.

This was bought on the Melbourne Op Shop Tour I went on hosted by Erica of Recycled Fashion that was featured on Coxy's Big Break last weekend, yes I can be seen but I kept my mouth shut for fear of saying something like "Radical", "Down with the kids" or "Da Bomb".  I have a habit of making an idiot of myself when there's a big enough audience and national telly was too dangerous!  It's a gorgeous cotton maxi dress that I think is stunning.  It was bought from Vinnies and had 20% off with an extra 10% discounted because we were on the tour.

Finally this is such a great colour and really timeless I think and also bought on the Op Shop tour in Brighton

It's great to see adorable clothes being donated to charity and people valuing Op Shops and the reuse of goods in general.  I've always wanted to volunteer but with having a toddler committing to a set time has been an issue.  I have now managed to raise over $1,000 for the Salvation Army by listing clothes purchased from their Chelsea Heights Shop on Ebay - latest listing here including a Trelise Cooper skirt on at 99c!  Dogstar Bazaar

It's all about boots and bags!

This is my first post on this blog so please be gentle!!  Most of my finds come from SE Melbourne where I get to participate in two of my favourite things, op shopping and spending time with my toddler.  We normally head out on the train (part of the fun for him!) and I get one maybe two op shops in exchange for a trip to the park and fifteen hours pushing him on a swing.

You can spot me anywhere on the Frankston line between Cheltenham to Frankston on a dry day normally with a cheerful cheeky chap, on a bad day I can be identified with a stash of edible treats to pacify him and a coffee to see me through the morning.

I am now finding a few like minded people locally and online and thought it was about time to share some of my finds – bit slow on the techie front but better late than never!

This week it’s about old boots & bags!! These were all found from my two local op shops in Chelsea St Chads and Family Life (see their website for more info http://www.familylife.com.au)

I did a double take seeing these boots in pristine condition – gorgeous leather knee length boots from Nine West – perfect for the autumn and winter

I’m also partial to a bag or six!!  The first one is a cute black floral tapestry bag and its partner in crime that caught my eye is a 70s glomesh style bag by Pierre Cardin in white and gold.

I love vintage bags so you'll probably see more from me on that subject in the future

Some Suggestions Please

This post isn't really about anything I've bought recently. I've had the tablecloth for a couple of months now. The side plate, I've had for just ages and the mismatching teacup and saucer I bought at the RSPCA Op Shop at Burwood East a few months ago.

I keep my eye out for really pretty teacups, saucers, sideplates, bowls and dinner plates as I want a totally mismatching 'good' crockery set. I don't like to pay very much for each piece and I haven't seen a lot around, so, I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me some great places to go where I can find really pretty pieces of fine bone china, preferably from England or anywhere in Europe really.

I'd really appreciate your help and suggestions to which op shops to visit.

Perle 8 thread

I don't often pop into op shops these days, but I was dragged (willingly, of course) into Oakleigh Salvos this afternoon by my son.
There I found 15 balls of Perle 8 thread for $8.00. Moments earlier I had been contemplating buying Perle 8 thread from the nearby wool store for $2.50 per ball. Clearly my son was onto a winner!

Yours Now Mine

Looks like this weekend in Melbourne is going to be a rainy one. Ah.. winter is upon us my friends. So to cheer us all up, here’s another Op Shop for our lists! Checking this place out could be a lovely, rainy day activity for Saturday!

Yours Now Mine has been running for the past 10 years and is run by the Scalabrini Brothers, who use profits to look after the elderly.

From these pics they look stocked up with shoes, handbags, bric-a-brac, kitchenware, machester, prints and paintings, jewellery and books. They also sell European and local brand named clothing.

Opening Hours

Monday - Friday: 10am - 4pm
Saturday: 10am - 1pm

The inside scoop for checking this place out on Saturday is that because they need to put new stock out and tidy up, volunteers are still there until about 2.30pm.
