A trove of trashed treasures

This article turned up in The Age yesterday. Its about the odd donations that charities receive and also mentions Buy Nothing New Month.

Interesting article, but the comments were fascinating! They've got a real problem in Sydney by the sound of those last two comments, with such high prices and shoddy goods in their opshops. I know some Melbourne opshops price their goods a bit high, but you rarely find dirty stuff in our opshops these days. Where I am working, the (all volunteer) staff are very choosy about what goes in the shop and what goes into the rubbish bins and sadly, quite a lot goes in the bins. One lady wheeled a shopping trolly in the other day and dumped a heap of bags on the floor, and nicked off smartly. When the ladies opened the bags it was disgusting - cockroaches, fleas, mouldy rags...we always wear rubber gloves while sorting donated goods.
