Big day out in Greensborough.

Hubby's family have been clearing out his Mum's house which has been sold. Much of the contents have gone to auction, so on Sunday my husband's niece and I sorted through what was left and filled up my Hatchback with bags of stuff for opshops. I dropped it all at Savers in Greensborough today about 11.30 am, then parked the car and went to browse. I was with my opshop lovin' friend again, and first we went to the Brotherhood shop behind Savers, where I spent the princely sum of $1.25 on these two items:
I can't resist things with peacocks, especially when they only cost 75c.

Couldn't resist this cat either. He's a bit knocked around, but for 50c I'm not going to argue!

Then we returned to Savers, and spent over an hour there, as well as about a hundred dollars between us! I was amazed to see some of MIL's stuff on the shelves already - gee they were quick to price it and put it out on sale!

Here is what I took home for about $18.
A dear little cup to make another pincushion. $1.

Two folders to file stuff in, $2 and $1 each. And a roll of wrapping paper for $1. It's got motorbikes on it and will be useful to wrap the MOTH's next birthday gift.

A pair of brushed cotton pyjamas in a light aqua colour, $5. This pic doesn't do them justice.

Dressing gown for $8. It is brand new, and just what I've been looking for to replace my old Target gown which is looking very tired after about 10 years of winters!

Saturday at Savers

Hi again! On Saturday boyf and I went to the Footscray Savers. When we got there we found out they were having a special Savers weekend with a few different things on- free face painting and lucky dips for children (so sad I was too old for one!!), 20% off if you spent over $50 and hourly door prizes (they gave you a ticket when you went in.) Of course we have the worst luck ever, so we never win anything :P But I ended up with a few nice things!

A dusty pink wool blazer/jacket $6.99:
A gorgeous red full skirt $7.99
A cream crochet Dotti cardigan $5.99 and a small leather satchel $6.99. (Does anyone know why my photo was uploaded the wrong way around?? The other ones are the right way!)
Hope you're all having a lovely week, more posts by me to come soon. More finds and photos at my blog Sweethearts and Celebrations if you're interested!

Finally Ablaze!

For over a year I have been on the hunt for an op shop blazer. Retailers don't appear to make a casual style blazer in any other colour than black or gray, they are pricey and to be frank they just make things like they used to! I am still after something in a navy, brown or olive but this has really help stave off that blazing hunger for a while! From that same op shop in Kew I have blogged about previously, next to the church on High St. Apologies for being quiet in latey, it's been busy! I have a few more op shop gems I will share soon, Style Tweak x

Perle 8 thread

I don't often pop into op shops these days, but I was dragged (willingly, of course) into Oakleigh Salvos this afternoon by my son.
There I found 15 balls of Perle 8 thread for $8.00. Moments earlier I had been contemplating buying Perle 8 thread from the nearby wool store for $2.50 per ball. Clearly my son was onto a winner!

Displayed on an old spool holder found at the same oppy a couple of years ago.

around moonee ponds

Hi again! Last week I went op shopping around Puckle Street in Moonee Ponds, one of my favourite places :) It was quite successful!
I went to the tiny little op shop next to the Kmart (can't remember what it's called) and I got 3 pairs of shoes for $2 each! Some Forever New tan t-bar heels (one size too big but I can wear tights!) a pair of vintage red shoes with bows and brown suede Nine West shoes (not sure if I will wear these but I couldn't pass them!!)
I also went to the Brotherhood op shop and got these two skirts:
One of them is a blue denim high waist skirt from Forever New for $6, the other one is a white lace skirt from Sportsgirl for $5- which is actually still selling in stores right now!Sorry for the horrid quality photos!
I think I may have bought some other things from another oppy that is on Puckle St but right now I can't remember what they are! :P
Anyway I've got another post lined up so you'll see that soon.
Feel free to check out my blog Sweethearts and Celebrations!

Opshops in Burwood.

I had to go over to Burwood today, and took a friend with me for the ride. I completed my original message, and then asked Friend if she wanted to check out the local opshops. Silly question really - she had brought half a dozen bags with her, just in case..
The first one was in a side street off Riversdale Road. I can't remember if it is a Lions opshop or not, but it is not one of the big ones. Friend brought some lovely hand painted china (after vowing that she wasn't going to buy any more because she had nowhere to put them). Right!
Here is what I bought:
Two ties for 50c each.

Stunning framed piece of Goldwork embroidery, $5.

Beaded necklace, 50 cents

And this piece of lace was thrown for free...

From there we drove over to the RSPCA opshop near the corner of Burwood Highway and Middleborough Road. Friend went off the rails here, as it was her first visit, and they do have lots of goodies, although a bit more expensive than most oppies. She bought clothes, a book and a handbag. She might have got some other stuff too...I lost track. Cell, if you are reading this, the RSPCA shop has STACKS of Better Homes and Gardens mags!
Here are my purchases:
Plain white dish in three sections, for mixing oil paints. $2

Japanese 'play handkerchiefs', 50 cents each.

Books $3 each (ouch)

Neat animal fabric - under napkins. 50 cents

Vinnies Oakleigh

Bottom 2 books were $1 each, the others were 2 for $1 - I know I have said this before but this is seriously the best op shop (even better than second hand book shops)!

My turn again.

It's great to see so many posts this past week or so. It seems like the end of the financial year has spurred people on to go and spend some money! Here are some of my bargains this week:
A 2 metre length of fabric ($6) which will come in handy to use as backing fabric for a future patchwork project.

The cutest little framed cross stitch for $2! How could anyone part with this?

I couldn't make up my mind if this plate was done for kids, but in the end I took it - 50 cents. Cat lovers love ALL cats!
"A" for Australia little cross stitch kit $1. Had to have it!
